The birds that we have raised for the last number of years are called Rustic Rangers, a slower growth chicken than those raised conventionally, taking approximately 12 weeks to finish. Their natural tendency towards foraging for insects, grasses and legumes make them ideal for raising on pasture.

Benefits of Pastured Poultry:

  • Spend 100% of their time on pasture (less the first three weeks in a brooder, until they are fully feathered)
  • Fed a locally grown, organic grain ration, as well as a mix of grass/legumes and bugs through natural chicken foraging behaviour
  • Moved every day to fresh grass in portable chicken tractor
  • Fresh air and sun exposure
  • Low stress / comfortable environment with room to move and exercise

We feel that these benefits lead to a much healthier bird and therefore, a healthy, great tasting product as well. Our batches of chickens typically range in weight from 3.5 – 5.5 lbs each.
